Every month we have countless expenses that many of us cannot reasonably afford, because we’re convinced that we need them. Almost never will we find self-development, self-love or self-care on that list. It’s been instituted in our society that possessions are more important to invest in than ourselves.

If a person was to invest in themselves, they would heal the elements of their being that yearn for things outside of them. They would become connected with their true desires, and become resourceful in acquiring them. Eventually they would need less things externally to validate their worth.

Our culture has led us to believe that investing in ourselves is something we should have guilt or shame over. We are led to believe that prioritizing our own well-being means that we are putting ourselves before others, which is deemed as inherently wrong.

What happens when you feel bad? You buy stuff to make yourself feel better! It’s a perfect model for the consumerist society we reside in.
