When I was a kid my mom used to “play” with tarot cards and crystals. I didn’t understand what purpose they served and I just accepted that this was part of her rituals. When I stopped having a relationship with her, my interest in them dissipated, and I started to believe what most people in our society believe, which is that mysticism is nonsense.

I thought people who sought out guidance from “fortune tellers” were hopeless.

I spent decades denying my intuitive gifts, numbing them out with substances, working insane hours and pouring myself into “empty” people. Until my 30’s I never took any interest in this destined path. After a soul quest in 2016 in Peru, I returned as a highly attuned person. It was the first time I’d ever been free of the toxic environment I had drowned myself in, and my calling was undeniable.

After only a few months of working with spirit, my mother’s sister (who I also hadn’t spoken to since childhood) reached out and requested that we reconnect. In this meeting she had informed me that my great great grandmother was also a psychic medium in Quebec, and that her intuitive gifts financially supported our family. I was really taken by surprise that she was a clairvoyant AND the main income earner during a time when neither were widely accepted.

Having this information provided me with so much more purpose and understanding in my path. It solidified that this awakening I faced after Peru was so much more than a calling– it was a reminder to honor the lineage of healers that I come from.

You don’t have to be a healer or clairvoyant to work with tarot. It should be something you enjoy practicing with curiosity. We all possess intuition, and this is a fun tool that allows you to explore it more deeply.
